wheely great start

there were times we thought that we would never make it here
delayed flight meant a missed connection, an unexpected overnight, new route to get here and then just as we were to board the last flight, the airport was evacuated and we lost more time.
all that meant a midnight arrival the night before this first stage.
but these wheelers we not to be thrown off
up early for the start
sweating while the bikes were packed at 7h30
125km of high humidity at 30degrees
All 6 riders were keen and looking sharp in the wheeler colours
Kevin’s experience as a ds had the boys with radio communications and solid instruction for the day.
19 year old Thomas suffered a flat in the first few kms of the day but a quick wheel change and his calm fit riding had him back in the bunch before the action heated up. a cool customer for sure
Teams from France dominated the day’s breakaway but we had JS and Joel in the front split of the peleton and James, Thomas, keir and Steve all rode well to finish with the second chase.
windy, twisty climbs and descents, big crowds and hot action were the flavour of the day.
JS attacked his group a few km from the end but was caught before the line and Joel finished 4th in the sprint for 12th on the day.
Great day for all. Fantastic results for all.

Bikes washed, bottles filled and boys to bed. Day 2 awaits.
