Mufferaw Joe Update

Since this is 2010 and we now all drive flying cars, The Wheelers have decided to step up their game and offer the GPS data file (KML) for this weekend’s Mufferaw Joe course.

You low-fi peeps can cop the plain old school course map and kill some trees by printing it out.

More details in the Mufferaw Joe Cyclosportif Event page.

Hey all you who are registering in advance – you are guaranteeing a strong turnout for “de Muff”. Much appreciated! Between the verbals and the money-honeys it looks like at least 120 wheels!

I have been getting requests for information from a broad spectrum of people. It looks like we may have a good number “just showing up and riding” and at minimum 5 seven person teams “out for battle”.

The weather is predicted to be warm with a possibility of precipitation in the afternoon. My estimate is that we will be dry for our ride.

The Saddlesores will be performing for us when we get back to Gavan’s in Quyon.

John Large is preparing fresh, home baked bread and serious stew – veggie and meat options.

This is going to be a blast!

      Hi John & Chris,

Thank you for the useful feedback. I would very much like to participate in this event. The weather forecast for Sunday has called for less and less chance and accumulation of rain the closer we get, so the chances of me being there are also improving. Still, I think this will be a “game-time decision” on Sunday morning.

      Hope to be there,

      Tom.

Hi Tom, lots of questions there. Rolling 130km ride up in the Pontiac. some gravel sections. Not sure how they are this spring – part of the adventure. Group is not mandatory and we sort of split ourselves into “Relaxed”, “Steady and Faster”, and “We’re Jammin’ ” groups. I have no idea what T3 speed is or the speeds in numbers of our 3 groups. We base the speed on keeping those who show up to stick together as a group , a.ka.a – group ride. The last 30km home is at higher
speed for those who feel like ripping it up ahead.
Back for a hotmeal and a beer gives our events the social meeting side we like. Some do not stay for the meal but they pay for it anyway. Only you know if you would fit in but
you are definately welcome to come and see.
Remote starts make for new roads for people.
Gavin’s is a classic old valley tavern and makes for a great
    day.

Just saw this Mufferaw Joe deal on TriRudy. Seems interesting. I don’t think I could scare up six buddies to tackle this with, but…I guess that’s not mandatory.

Never heard of this event before. What’s the route really like? It sounds/seems like there is some hard-pack or other non-paved section. How much? Also, about how big a crowd do you expect, and how fast? I’m in OBC although I don’t ride their tours often, but when I do, I’m about T3. Would I fit in? Is this a timed event?

    Thanks!
    Tom.
